Update! Rich and Dan have finished! They crossed the finish line at around 8:30 Friday evening. They rowed into the port in Antigua illuminated by flares and greeted by a crowd of about 60 people that had gathered on the dockside. More news from Kate in the News section.
Rich Dewire and Dan Darley are, as you read this, out in the Atlantic ocean rowing from the Canary Islands to the West Indies, a distance of about 3,000 miles, in a 24 foot boat.
This picture was taken by the crew of the support boat Aurora during a routine check on the crew on the morning of the 13th December - riding the swell as a day long storm subsided.
Our crossing is part of the Atlantic Rowing Race 2005, and we are aiming to win the pairs event. We have also set our sights on having a crack at the current record for the crossing, which stands at just over 40 days, and are hoping to raise £50,000 for charity.
We will be raising money for two very deserving charities - Cancer Research UK and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. These guys do fantastic work, and need all they help they can get to continue doing so. You can offer your support by clicking below to make an online donation.
We are also currently looking for corporate and/or individual sponsorship to help meet the costs of the race entry. The costs are estimated at around £60,000, meaning that the attempt cannot be made without support. Various benefits are available for supporters - click below for more details.
