Dan went to university at Trinity College, Cambridge where he first learned to row. After honing his talents in the college's lowest novice crew he clawed his way up to the first VIII and became captain of the club, First & Third Trinity, two years later. In the same year he also represented the Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club in their annual race against their counterparts from Oxford. Dan won the British Indoor Rowing Championships (Open Lightweight event) in 1998 and placed in the 2 preceding years.
Since leaving college Dan has worked in London at the investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein but still finds time to hit the gym once or twice a day to keep him racing competitively. Recent highlights include representing GB at the age-group world triathlon championships in May 2004 and racing a number of marathons and other triathlons including 5 Ironman events which culminated in Dan qualifying for, and competing at, Ironman Hawaii in 2004 - coming 440th out of about 1700 competitors. His next big race will be the London Marathon 2005 where he hopes to sneak home in under 2hours 45 minutes.
Dan enjoys the mental aspect of endurance events and is looking forward to the psychological challenge of the Atlantic Race.
Dan is currently training like a nutcase in order to stay ahead of Rich.
