9 November 2005 - Record Breakers!

At 10.36 on Wednesday 9th November, Dan and Rich broke the world record for rowing 1 million metres on a rowing machine, in a 2 man team. The previous record was 3 days, 4 hours, 48 minutes and 34 seconds, which was set by New Zealanders Kevin Biggar and Scott Donaldson. Dan and Rich comprehensively beat this, taking off over 4.5 hours to finish in 3 days, 17 minutes and 12 seconds. This bodes very well indeed for their Atlantic challenge, as Kevin Biggar was a member of the 2003 winning pair, who also set the current race record. The pair rowed most of the 3 days in an hour on / hour off rotation, switching to half hours for the last 10 hours. Rest time was spent trying to take on enough calories before crashing under a sleeping bag on the floor next to the erg! They are now recovering from their exhausting challenge, but are very happy to be world record holders!
